MAPUSA: A delegation comprising of 10 members from the Mapusa Merchants Association (MMA) led by Ashish Shirodkar met Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) chairperson Ryan Braganza on Thursday and demanded proper sanitation facility in the market.
The merchants raised concerns over the encroachments near the public utility toilet, which was used by vendors selling spices and other commodities. They demanded that the MMC chief immediately form the town vending committee and find a solution to trade licence issue.
Ashish said both the toilets in the Mapusa market are as good as non-existent. One toilet is closed and vendors are seen sitting in front of the other one selling spices.
“No maintenance of these toilets has been taken up and in case the municipality cannot do it, we ask you to give the merchants association a chance to do it under the CSR funding,” Shirodkar said.
After lending a patient ear to their grievances, Ryan promised the delegation that the municipality will look into their demands. “We will also look into the issue of trade licenses faced by the traders and find a solution to the same,” Ryan added.
