CANACONA: Four members of a family travelling from Panjim to Karwar had a miraculous escape when their car skidded and rammed into an oncoming truck from Karwar at Karmal Ghat, Canacona on Tuesday morning.
Balkrishna Salunke and his family hailing from Asnoti, Karwar, but settled in Panjim, were travelling to their native place when their skidded.
According to Canacona police traffic cell PSI Gautam Salunke, the driver of the car stated that when he applied the brakes the car skidded due to drizzling. Subsequently, the driver lost control of the car and rammed into an oncoming truck.
The car was severely damaged in the accident; however, the occupants escaped with minor injuries.
The National highway at Karmal Ghat is very narrow, circuitous and accident prone. Stray cattle and monkeys too have caused many accidents along the Karmal Ghat stretch.
In another accident that occurred in the same area on Monday morning, a car dash against a tree along the road side, while trying to avoid a stray cattle.
In this incident also the occupants of the car escaped with minor injuries.
