PANJIM: The Goa State Human Rights Commission on Friday issued notices to the chief secretary, managing director, Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation and Commissioner, Corporation of City of Panjim with regard to the digging work being carried out along the Miramar-Dona Paula road.
The bench has directed the trio to appear before it in person or through their advocate on June 10.
The GSIDC took up the concretization of the road around February-end but the trenches dug along the road stretch have still not been leveled, thus posing danger to citizens.
The three-member GSHRC headed by Justice P K Mishra issued them the notices taking cognizance of a complaint filed by a social activist Aires Rodrigues that the work has turned the road into ‘dangerous and accident prone’ especially to over 1000 students of Sharada Mandir School.
The trenches will also pose danger to toddlers who begin school Monday.
Herald has been running a campaign highlighting the inconvenience caused due to the long pending incomplete work, even as the academic year has commenced.
With the rains expected to touch Goa during the second week of June, the situation can only worsen.
Local citizens and the school’s Parent’s Teachers Association have been raising apprehensions that the work will not only threaten the safety of students but will also expose people to health risk since the trenches will lead to water stagnation.
