MARGAO: Unknown miscreants vandalized the shigmo decoration erected at the traffic island opposite the old collectorate building by the government-constituted Shigmo committee last night.
The police have launched a hunt to nab the two accused, whose act was captured by the Closed Circuit TV cameras.
The two miscreants, who came on a two-wheeler, damaged the effigy of Virbhadra by severing its head from the body. They carried away the head and abandoned the same around 300 meters away from the site.
The incident came to light on Saturday morning when the effigy’s head was found missing.
The Margao police have swung into action following a complaint lodged by the government committee constituted to hold the shigmo parade in Margao.
Committee general secretary Sharmad Raiturcar demanded the immediate arrest of the anti-socials responsible for the act.
“This act is highly condemnable. The miscreants are anti-socials who should be dealt with a heavy hand as they made an attempt to divide the society”, he said.
Following the incident, the Margao police scanned the CCTV footage from the camera installed at the old collectorate building.
Similarly, the CCTV footage installed near the building where the miscreants abandoned the severed head of the effigy has given some clues to the Margao police.
“We have got some leads from the CCTV footage. The police have registered a case against the two persons for vandalism. We are on the job to nab the two culprits”, PI Sudesh Naik, while exuding confidence in achieving a breakthrough.
