MAPUSA: Former Revenue Minister and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte on Monday accused Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant of playing “negative and dirty” politics on COVID-19.
“CM is playing negative and dirty politics on COVID-19. He is working as BJP’s Chief Minister and not as State leader. Government has made mistake by giving permission for trains to halt in Goa. While other States are moving from bad to good, Goa is moving from good to bad. Without any doubt the chief minister has failed on all grounds to handle COVID-19 situation”, the Porvorim legislator alleged while addressing media persons.
“People were moving freely because the State was green zone, but due to the over enthusiasm of the Chief Minister, Goa is no longer in safe hands. After the train service was resumed, people from outside, who are now found positive came to Goa. However, what about those who tested negative and are now roaming freely. These are the carriers of virus and government have no clue of whereabouts of these people, who will further spread the virus in the next 14 days”, Khaunte said.
“Not only Rajdhani Express, all the trains should be stopped from halting in Goa,” he demanded.
“The Chief Minister will have to apologise to the people of Goa for the COVID-19 cases in Goa due to his “immature and weak” decisions and for risking the lives of the people,” the MLA warned.
“Quarantine Tourism is being promoted in the State where in several hotels have started operating and accepting online booking of rooms during the lockdown period though they are not permitted to open. Even the Old Goa Residency, which is actually a paid quarantine centre of the government, has accepted bookings,” he charged
The MLA demanded that government to take a bold decision with regards to SSC and HSSC exams.
“Karnataka and other States have postponed the exams to June. However, the Chief minister of Goa is playing with the lives of students as well as teachers and parents. Chief Minister should postpone the exams,” he demanded.
