VASCO: Mormugao MLA Milind Naik on Wednesday reiterated that the temporary shed at Headland Sada junction needs to be removed at any cost as it has become a den for antisocial activities.
The temporary shed was erected to perform religious functions of Lord Ganesh and for promoting other religious activities.
Naik was reacting to the fears expressed by the locals and four Mormugao Municipal councillors that if the shed is not dismantled, it might lead to serious law and order problem.
“Yesterday, the Vasco police arrested a man from Mormugao Harbour with ganja. On many occasions, I have personally seen this person near this temporary shed used by the residents for worshipping lord Ganesha. Similarly, on last Saturday over 40 youth under the influence of alcohol were seen creating nuisance near the same shed till 3 am and police were acting as mute spectator, which is unacceptable,” he said.
. I am not going to keep quiet and will ensure that action against those policemen is taken,” Naik said.
However, he clarified that those involved in such illegal activities near the temporary shed are not the local youth, but youngsters from GRB colony.
He further clarified his stand on religious functions saying, “I am not against any religious functions. But I am against mushrooming of antisocial activities near this temporary shed.”
Naik said that it is a normal practice that authorities give permission for the erection of shed/pandal during religious functions and by rule such shed/pandal should to be removed after function gets over.
“However, the shed in question has not been dismantled. I am surprised that few councillors are trying to protect this shed,” he said and vowed to dismantle the shed.
