MARGAO: Stating that the berthing of the naphtha laden vessel Nu-Shi-Nalini at MPT is a serious issue, which needs to be addressed urgently, Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi has requested for handing over this important case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for complete investigation into the serious crime.

The copies of the letter have also been forwarded to Amit Shah, Union Home Minister, Mansukh L Mandaviya, Union Minister of Shipping of India and State Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant.
“Without the knowledge of Central and State governments who allowed the controversial Nu-Shi-Nalini vessel carrying hazardous cargo to berth at MPT? It is a serious issue, which has to be addressed urgently and I request your good self to hand over this important case to the CBI for complete investigation in this serious crime,” Reginaldo urged.
“Stern legal action needs to be taken against the culprits. The said offenders should not be allowed to go scot free. The losses to our State government due to salvage operations should be recovered from the person who was responsible for the said crime,” he requested.
“Had the salvage operations not being successful Nu-Shi-Nalini, could have led to environmental disaster by the spillage of naphtha and other fuel from the tanker or the drowning and then the breaking of the vessel could have taken place due to the presence of strong waves and currents,” Reginaldo said.
