MMC demands house tax from OYO

MARGAO: The Margao Municipal Council (MMC), in a notice, has directed the OYO not to bypass the municipality while signing agreements with hotels in Margao.
MMC Chief Officer Shidhivinayak Naik told the media that the Council has noticed that some Margao hoteliers are having a tie-up with OYO.
“It is an agreement in which hotel owners are giving their hotels on rent to OYO. Therefore, it automatically comes under house tax under Municipality Act and 10% of the annual income has to come to the MMC as house tax,” the chief officer said.
“As of now, we haven’t received house tax from hoteliers or OYO. Hence, we have issued a notice to the OYO management to give all details of all those agreements. MMC has identified 11 hotels that have entered into an agreement to rent out the rooms,” he said.
MMC has given them 15 days time for communication and if they are not communicating with the MMC the administration will disconnect water and power supply to the hotels.
