MARGAO, MARCH 24
The Goa Municipal Employees Association has bitterly protested over huge delays in making salary payments to the workers by the Margao Municipal Council.
The Association has also strongly objected to the MMC decision appointing an UDC to undertake inspections of establishments hitherto carried out by the market inspectors.
Association general secretary Anil Shirodkar pointed out that workers are not being paid their payments by the accounts section for months together. “We will no longer tolerate this injustice from the Civic body”, he warned.
Referring to the order issued by the MMC Chief Officer Prasanna Acharya appointing an UDC to carry out inspection of establishments in the markets, shirodkar sought to know how can a UDC be deputed for field work by the Chief Officer.
“When we questioned the Chief Officer over his order, he referred to a resolution adopted by the Council. This is not as per service rules. Will the LDCs and UDCs drafted for other field work such as garbage clearing and road works”, he demanded to know.
The Executive Committee of the Association is meeting on Friday to chalk out the future course of action, even as Shirodkar warned that the Civic employees will not hesitate to strike work if the situation warrants.
