MARGAO: The Margao Municipal Council had granted permission to the president of Readymade & Cloth Vendors Association to repair the temporary stall allotted to them but the temporary stall has been apparently converted into a permanent stall although the walls are made of only wood and no concrete is used.
The President of Readymade & Cloth Vendors Association had sought permission on June 5, 2017 to repair the “wooden gada” that was allotted to them in the Gandhi Market and as per the notes on the file, the permission was given on June 30, 2017.
The application was approved by the officials of the council and the market committee did not discuss it at all as the chairman of the market committee had resigned and it was yet to be reconstituted.
The application was processed within a month probably because the signatory to the application is Rajendra Azgaonkar, brother of Tourism Minister Manohar alias Babu Azgaonkar.
Interestingly, all the letters pertaining to the repairs of the stall are signed by the President of the Readymade & Cloth Vendors Association without mentioning the name, and the signature matches or tallies with that of Rajendra Azgaonkar.
The stall is erected in the quadrangle in the middle of the Gandhi Market which is supposed to be an open space and next to the repaired stall is a temporary stall where tea and snacks are served while the repaired stall is selling readymade clothes.
