VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) has started the process of recovering dues and bringing discipline at the vegetable market in Vasco. “Rs 47 lakh is yet to be paid by the vendors at the vegetable market. Besides that, they have encroached on the road and are doing business there illegally. Therefore, we have started the second phase of the recovery drive from the vegetable market. If our predecessors had put a little effort into recovering dues, then we would not have faced such a scenario, where dues worth crores of rupees are pending,” said Deepak Naik, MMC chairperson. Naik and a team of councillors and municipal officials visited the vegetable market on Wednesday and were surprised to see that most of the vegetable and fruit vendors had kept their stalls empty and were doing business by the roadside.
