MMC to attach petrol pumps if rent not paid

Saying that the Civic body means business, Margao Municipal Chief officer Y B Tawde has said that the Municipality would go for attachment of the petrol pumps if the oil companies fails to pay the rent arrears within 15 days.
Rejecting the plea of the oil companies to grant one month’s time to deposit the rent arrears, the MMC Chief Officer said that the Civic body has already served a notice on Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum to clear their dues amounting to nearly Rs 35 lakhs within 15 days.
“We have served the demand notice on the two oil companies. As per the procedure, around 15 days are given to the parties to clear the arrears within 15 days”, Tawde said, adding that the Civic body would go for attachment after the companies fails to deposit the rent arrears within the period.
The Territory manager of Bharat Petroleum had asked the Civic body to grant one month’s time to deposit the rent since they have to obtain approval of higher authorities for deposit of the rent, including arrears.
IN fact, the petroleum companies has told the Civic body that any action of closing down the petrol pumps would inconvenience the public, warning that the situation might lead to law and order problem in Margao.
