PORVORIM: The Mapusa Municipal Council has decided in the meeting held on Thursday to construct a six-storey commercial project in place of existing Alankar Theatre.
MMC had offered the land to Rao Brothers on long lease basis for the construction of Alankar Theatre. Since the lease has expired MMC wanted to construct the commercial project in place of Alankar Theatre. After discussing the matter with their legal advisors, MMC constituted a committee to initiate dialogue with heirs of Rao Brothers. The heirs of Rao Brothers gave consent to the construction of commercial project provided they are offered 25% area on each floor. MMC accordingly placed this matter before the councillors in the meeting and adopted a resolution to construct a commercial project by demolishing the existing Alankar theatre and allot 25% area on each floor at nominal rent of Rs 12000 each year to Rao Brothers. This resolution will be sent to Director of Municipal Administration for approval.
The Councillor Subhash Calangutker suggested that the children park may be developed in the open space at Duler near Prabhu estate Housing society. After discussions it was agreed unanimously to develop children’s park at Duler and resolution to this effect was adopted.
MMC has allotted house number to some unauthorized houses built in the communidade land prior to year 2000 and collected tax. The chairperson Ms Roopa Bhakta mentioned that MMC has received requests from more such house owners requesting to allot them house numbers. Since there was no evidence to prove that those houses were built before 2000 MMC differed the decision.
The councillor Sandeep Falari suggested that the stretch of road commencing from Datamadir to Dattawadi Hindu crematorium be named after former MLA late Shyamsunder Nevgi and the stretch of road from Dattamandir to Ashirwad Hall be named after late Dharmendra Hirve. This suggestion was accepted and resolution in this regard was adopted.
The Chief Officer Raju Gawas, Municipal Engineer Hussain Shah Muzawar and Accountant Bhanudas Naik were present for this meeting.
