VALPOI: The government has planned to chop down trees in Sattari that might be uprooted during the monsoons or by heavy winds. Bicholim Deputy Collector Arondekar took the decision at a meeting with officials from Forest Department, PWD, and Fire and Emergency department.
Government officials are conducting survey of such trees at various roads in Sattari. Action will be taken once the reports are obtained.
The number of trees that have fallen during the monsoon has increased, forcing the government to take seriously the danger posed by falling trees. The Fire Department stated that the road at Chorla was blocked 56 times last year, creating havoc for the people heading towards Belgaum and those coming to Goa.
It was also decided at the meeting to hire a JCB during the monsoons to help clear roads faster after landslides.
