PANJIM: Goa may have to wait longer for a new Zuari bridge, while the wait in Panjim for the replacement of its outdated and leaking sewerage system will also lengthen, officials confirmed.
The delay in the cable-stayed Zuari bridge, connecting North and South Goa, is because the Centre has sought modifications in the plan sent by the State for approval. The plans are being re-finalized by the consultants S N Bhobe.
“We are working on it. Once it is finalized, we will be resending the proposal,” chief engineer Uttam Parsekar told media. He, however, refused to give any details.
Sources close to the project said that after the modifications, the Rs 2100-odd crore bridge will still remain cable stayed but the entire design is likely to change, with likely changes in the span alignment and other modifications.
Regarding the sewerage lines for the capital, the PWD has to submit a new proposal as its first one, sent four years ago, along with the water pipeline replacement proposal, was rejected.
“Four years back two proposals were submitted. Water pipelines and sewerage,” executive engineer Dilip Dhavalikar told the media, adding that the water pipeline proposal was cleared.
According to sources the JNNURM scheme has now been changed and though the details are not clear, sources indicated that the name has been changed.
Sources said a new proposal has to be submitted for the sewerage system and this has not been finalized. The Sewerage Board’s Rajesh Galgali confirmed that there was no proposal from their end for changing the sewerage lines in the capital.
