MARGAO: Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco on Thursday requested the chairperson and chief officer of Margao Municipal Council (MMC) to hold a joint inspection of the Sonsoddo garbage dump.
Reginaldo said this important issue has got buried while fighting covid-19 pandemic.
In his letter addressed to MMC chairperson Pooja Naik and Chief Officer Ajit Panchwadkar , Reginaldo said, “It is being given to understand that while fighting pandemic coronavirus through imposed lockdowns since March 24, 2020, the Sonsoddo garbage dump issue has been consigned to the backburner. We cannot afford to lower our guard on the vexed issue, which has been creating anxiety in the minds of residents of the entire Curtorim constituency”.
“Surrounding villages and towns like Macasana, Sao Jose de Areal, parts of Fatorda and Margao are facing air and ground water pollution and nuisance to the public by the Sonsoddo garbage dump,” Reginaldo informed.
“Concurrently, I would like to remind that the populace in and around Sonsoddo garbage dump is dejected and frustrated a lot as their health is severely affected by the poisonous smoke billowing from now and then fires at the aforesaid site,” he claimed.
