PANJIM: The State government has tabled five amendment bills that are expected to be taken up for discussion and voting in this session of the Assembly.
The Goa Motor Vehicle Tax (Amendment), Bill, 2013 seeks to amend section 3-A of the Goa Daman and Diu Motor Vehicles Tax Act, 1974 so as to suitably enhance the rates of green tax to be levied and collected on the transport vehicles which have completed 15 years from the date of their initial registration, at the time of renewal of certificate of registration.
The Bill also seeks to empower the government to enhance the rate of one time cess called ‘infrastructure development cess’, payable on newly purchased motor cars priced Rs 10-lakh and above.
The (Goa Motor Vehicles Taxation on Passengers and Goods) (Amendment) Bill, 2013 to specify, revise, rates of composition fee of stage carriages, contract carriages, bus, maxi cabs and bus (sleeper coach) and bus and mini buses all registered, both in Goa as well as outside but plying in Goa.
The Goa Land Revenue Code (Amendment) Bill, 2013 seeks to empower the government specify a fee for conversion of use of land from one purpose to another as per the location of the land.
The Goa Buildings (Lease, Rent and Eviction) Control, Amendment Bill, 2013 seeks to protect the property rights of persons who is a senior citizen or a widow or a physically disabled person and enable them to recover possession of their premises when the same are bona fide occupation.
…Tax relief for temples
PANJIM: Temples will no longer have to pay funds of beneficence and education to the government. The Goa Legislative Diploma No. 645 dated 30-3-1933 (Amendment) Bill, 2013 seeks to do away with the payment of 3% of the receipts by the devasthans to the government for the funds of beneficence and education. As a consequence, the government will no longer receive Rs 7.90 lakh it used to receive through derram and the payment of pension to retired devasthan clerks and peons will have to be borne by the government.
