Mormugao civic body to ink MoU with NGO to tackle stray cattle menace

VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with NGO Mormugao Yuva Morcha to tackle stray cattle menace. 
Various complaints regarding the inconvenience caused due to stray cattle in the town have prompted the Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes to decide on the MoU. 
The Mormugao Municipal CouncilChief Officer has decided to get the MoU executed under the Animal Husbandry scheme under which the handling of stray cattle can be handed over to an NGO. 
The absence of a cattle lifting vehicle with the MMC has caused discontent among the town residents. Kiran Naik, Mormugao Yuva Morcha Convenor has sought for the arrest of stray cattle owners. 
“The place for cattle is a cowshed and not roads and it is the responsibility of the owners to keep them there,” Naik said.
The NGO has requested the Mormugao Municipal Council Chairperson to tackle the stray cattle menace soon and have also expressed its willingness to create a cattle pound. The NGO requested the Mormugao Municipal Council to provide land for the cattle pound.
