Most of the complaints are minor and related to illegal banners and hoardings, informed Mormugao Deputy Collector Mormugao Sabaji Shetye, who is also the returning officer.
According to Shetye, only one complaint received by the flying squad has been given in writing, while the rest have been made orally. All the complaints were attended to swiftly. Regarding the polling preparation, he has identified 80 polling booths for the voters of 25 wards. He added, “Each polling booth will have a staff of five, two policemen, and reserve staff. All precautionary measures have been put in place to ensure peaceful elections.”
He further stated, “As per the SEC’s direction, we have informed the candidates to avoid using vehicles to ferry voters to the polling booths. The voters can bring their own vehicles, but the same has to be parked 200 meters away from the polling booth. Further, there is also a total ban on canvassing or assembling within 100 meters from the booths. Also, a voter can use an EPIC card or any other identity card issued, including smart card, driving license, PAN card, nationalised bank passbook with photo, identity card issued by the head of any educational institution, photo identity card issued by the State or Central government, pension document with photographs, etc.”
