According to reports, the accident occurred when Edwin Cardozo was proceeding on his motorcycle for work at a company at Kundaim Industrial Estate.
On reaching at a sharp turn at Kundaim, the bus carrying company workers towards the industrial estate knocked down Cardozo while overtaking the two-wheeler. Cardozo sustained serious injuries to his leg.
Sources informed that the bus driver and cleaner immediately alighted from the bus and removed the victim from under the bus and kept him on the side of the road and fled from the site without providing him any medical aid.
Sources said as soon the workers of the company where Cardozo was working came to know about the accident, they left their work and rushed to the site and helped Cardozo, who was lying injured, and called ambulance and shifted him to Sub District Hospital at Ponda, from where he was referred to GMC Hospital in Bambolim.
Later, the company workers protested for about two-and-half hours and opposed to conduct the Panchanama till the bus driver, who was absconding, was brought to the site. PSI Pandurang Gavde pacified the workers and later the bus was removed from the road. Heavy police personnel were present at the site to prevent any untoward incident.
