VASCO: The road along the Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) football ground at Baina is in a dilapidated condition for the last several years, with authorities doing little to repair it.
It may be recalled that former chief minister Digambar Kamat had inspected the road in 2010 and had assured to take up the matter with MPT and repair it.
Sources informed that the road is mostly used as a short cut by students of Mata Higher Secondary and Primary School, Government School at Baina and others. The road is excessively used by residents of Baina and neighboring areas during the Vasco Saptah festival.
Some residents have accused the MPT of failing to issue an NOC to authorities concerned to repair the road and install streetlights along the route.
When contacted, MPT Chief Engineer J Silveira informed that till date, no authority had approached the MPT for an NOC either to repair the road or to install streetlights.
“MPT only received a request from the CISF working at the Dabolim airport and staying near the MPT ground to repair the road as it damages their vehicles. At present, the MPT cannot do anything during the monsoon season and MPT may be in a position to repair the road after the monsoon,” informed Silveira.
“Due to a hit in MPTs revenue, we may not be in a position to asphalt the road,” said Silveira, but he assured that they would fill the potholes.
