VASCO: An undertrial in a murder case allegedly assaulted a police constable at Sada Sub Jail Vasco on Monday morning.
According to Mormugao police, the incident took place during a routine check of undertrials before leaving the Sada Sub jail.
Police constable Jagdish Fadte started frisking the undertrial, Jayesh Naik, who was to be taken to the District Court at Margao. Naik refused to be subjected to a routine check and instead, demanded an apology from Fadte.
Fadte bluntly refused to do so and claimed that it was part of his duty. This angered Naik and he allegedly kicked the police constable in his groin area.
Noticing the commotion, other police constables rushed and stopped the fight. Fadte was later sent for a medical examination.
Acting on a compliant by Fadte, Mormugao police registered an offence against Naik under Section 353 and PI Kapil Naik is investigating the case.
