PANJIM: Will the tenure of the chief secretary of Goa, who has been here for just two months, be prematurely truncated?
There is speculation that K K Sharma, a 1983-batch IAS officer, who joined as Goa’s Chief Secretary on January 1 may be transferred to the Delhi administration on a special request made by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
However, local officials say they have not got any directions in this matter, even as they point out, that according to court orders, no bureaucrat can be shifted out within two years of his posting at a particular place.
According to reports, after the Ministry of Home Affairs rejected Kejriwal’s request of appointing senior bureaucrat R S Negi as the next chief secretary of Delhi, in a quick riposte the Delhi government rejected the panel of three senior IAS officers recommended by the Union Home Ministry.
Ultimately, according to ministry sources, after Kejriwal was asked to suggest the name of any officer who is in the pay band apex scale of Rs 80,000, he had suggested the name of K K Sharma.
Reports suggest that in a letter to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Kejriwal had reiterated the demand for Negi’s appointment as the next chief secretary and claimed that the Centre should not impose any officer on it. He also asked Singh whether his government had the right to choose the Delhi government’s officers.
