CALANGUTE: Residents of Nagoa on Friday marched to the office of the PWD executive engineer at Mapusa, to demand an explanation for the water shortage in the village for almost a week.
According to the residents, they were agitated over the indifferent attitude of PWD officials and workers, especially the lineman, who has been looking after the area for over 13 years.
“Despite being aware of the water woes of the Nagoa residents, the PWD official failed to take any corrective measures. The matter was compounded after a water connection was released for a commercial establishment in the area,” stated a resident.
“When we objected to the release of water to a hotel from the local water pipeline, the Calangute MLA Michael Lobo intervened and directed the Nagoa PWD official to release water to the hotel from the commercial pipeline,” a local told Herald.
“However, the PWD official released the water connection in the presence of the police to the hotel from the same local pipeline and we had to go without water for several days,” said the local.
“We were forced to march to the office of the executive engineer, PWD, Mapusa, to lodge our protest and seek immediate transfer of the PWD official. We were told by the officials at the PWD office in Mapusa that the official concerned has been working on the Nagoa area for over 13 years now. It’s surprising that the PWD official has never been transferred from Nagoa and we want him transferred immediately,” demanded the local.
When contacted, Lobo assured to look into the matter and rectify the problem, if any, by the PWD official, without hurting the sentiments of the locals.
