Amid rising tensions in the Iran–Israel conflict, US President Donald Trump has launched a sharp attack on American allies, accusing them of refusing to support Washington’s efforts to reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. The key shipping route, currently disrupted by Iran, is crucial for global oil supplies and has triggered a surge in energy prices worldwide.
In a strongly worded statement, Trump described allies as “cowards” for failing to join what he termed a low-risk military operation. He also criticised NATO, calling it a “paper tiger” without US leadership. According to Trump, several countries have been quick to complain about rising oil prices but unwilling to contribute militarily to resolve the crisis. He warned that the United States would “remember” their lack of support.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical chokepoints for oil transport, and any disruption has immediate global economic consequences. Trump argued that reopening it would be a relatively straightforward military manoeuvre but alleged that allies lacked the will to act.
