The dispute over the election of the Navelim Block Congress committee reached the national capital, with the GPCC President Subhash Shirodkar accompanied by the PWD Minister Churchill Alemao briefing Congress organisational poll coordinator Oscar Fernandes on the issue on Tuesday evening.
Fernandes is believed to have told the GPCC president and Navelim block congress committee president Leon Raikar to file an appeal against the report of the returning officer declaring Conceicao Piexote as the newly elected president of the Navelim congress block.
Oscar further told the delegation to submit a report how the elections were manipulated by the returning officer to the advantage of the Piexote group.
Elections to the Navelim block Congress committee had created a controversy, with an agitated Navelim MLA Churchill Alemao demanding the declaration of Piexote as null and void or else threatened to constitute parallel block committees across if the congress leadership fails to dissolve Piexote led block committee.
Commenting on today’s meeting with Oscar Fernandes, Alemao said since the congress leader has asked the GPCC President and Raikar to file an appeal and a detailed report on the manipulation of the election, he would wait for a decision from the congress high command. “I will wait for the GPCC president to file an appeal and a decision from the Congress leadership before taking the next course of action,” he said.
The election hit a bitter row last week and the Chief Minister Digambar Kamat was briefed on the issue by the Alemao brothers comprising Churchill and Joaquim and Shirodkar.
On the other hand, Piexote — a close aide of CWC member Luizinho Faleiro – has maintained that he has been duly elected as the Navelim block Congress committee and wondered how the party leadership can dissolve the committee within days of the election.
