PANJIM: A day after the government shunted public prosecutor Adv Rajiv Gomes out from representing it in the Canacona building collapse case, Nationalist Congress Party on Monday accused the government of trying to shield its cabinet minister and former local MLA who are involved in the case.
“This act clearly indicates that Chief Minister is directly involved in shielding the guilty and his party colleagues,” NCP spokesman Trajano D’Mello said during a press conference.
NCP has also accused the BJP-led government of stalling the Serula Comunidade election process by resorting to ‘goondagiri’.
NCP alleged that a group of people led by Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar’s brother Pramod tried to prevent the elections despite High Court directions that the elections should be held either on or before February 15 without any further postponement. The election of new managing committee of Serula Comunidade was scheduled on February 16.
“Goondagiri under the leadership of Pramod was brought in to subvert and crush the elections. BJP top-office bearers including Satish Dhond were responsible for forcing the police present at the scene not to interfere, despite orders from the mamlatdar,” he said
Trajano said that while the mamlatdar announced postponement of elections, Comunidade members declared that they have elected their new managing committee.
