PANJIM: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Saturday said that the new National Education Policy will be implemented from the next academic year.

Addressing a press conference after the BJP Goa State Executive Committee (SEC) meeting, Dr Sawant maintained that implementation of the policy would commence from 2021.
“Implementation of the education policy will begin from 2021. We are not opposing to primary education in mother tongue. Infact we promote primary education in mother tongue,” Sawant said in response to a media question.
During his interaction with the students last month, Sawant had said they have formed a task force to study the policy that will be implemented from next academic year.
The party unit, during the SEC meeting held in the presence of Chief Minister Sawant, appealed to its cadres to start working towards winning a majority of seats in the 2022 Legislative Assembly elections.
Party President Sadanand Tanavade informed the members to enthuse cadres to strengthen the organisation at booth level.
“Party workers were in touch with people through virtual mediums in light of the pandemic, but now they should come out and establish contacts. We should aim to win a majority of the seats in the 2022 Assembly election by working in all constituencies,” he said, while addressing his first SEC meet on appointment as president.
“The State government ensured that the students appearing in the milestone examinations are given relief. In spite of opposition from vested interests and in spite of a legal battle, the State government was able to get a relief from the court and go ahead with SSC examinations. With all safety and hygiene protocols being strictly followed our government was able to conduct SSC, GCET, Diploma, NEET, JEE and NATA examinations, thereby safeguarding the academic future of our youngsters,” reads a press statement issued by the party after the meeting.
“Goa needs investment in non-polluting yet employment generating sectors. Education sector is one such sector and now with the passing of the Private University Act in the Goa Assembly, Goa has set itself on the path to become an education hub. With more intervention of technology, governance can be effectively delivered. With the integration of the Goa Online portal with Citizen Service Centres across Goa, now more than 100 services are available online in public interest. The Town and Country Planning Department has made building plan approval system online on similar lines,” the release further stated.
The Congress and other Opposition parties have been detached from the public, it alleged adding, the former have been busy in portraying a bad image of BJP Goa through baseless allegations and falsehood.
The Chief Minister, to another query, denied that the State is in debt trap due to continuous borrowings. He said that revenue collection in the State has come down to 35 to 40 per cent due to COVID-19 crisis but it has not affected the social welfare schemes implemented by the government.
“Goa had a total debt of Rs 20,240 crore when I took over. During my tenure, we have taken a loan of Rs 2,500 crore and at the same time repaid the earlier loan of Rs 3,000 crore. We will try to put this is order by March next year,” he added.
