Resident says he has sponsored the project

CORTALIM: In an interesting development pertaining to the controversial makeshift market, a resident of Cortalim has informed the Cortalim-Quelossim panchayat that he has put up the market shed and PCC free of cost.
In a letter dated March 20, Vicente J Diniz alias Vincy, a businessman from Kersarval-Cortalim, said he had voluntarily put up the shed and added that the PCC works would be ready on March 20.
Diniz urged the panchayat not to entertain any quotations since he had already completed the work and also forwarded a copy to the President of Confraia, St Philip and St James, who are the owners of the land.
Diniz’s letter assumes significance since panchayat Secretary Asha Mesta informed Herald on March 17 that she had not received any quotations and hence could not offer any comments.
In another development, Panch Raymond De Sa claimed that no panchayat resolution was taken to shift the Cortalim post office and police outpost to another premises. “I became aware only after a news item appeared in Herald,” he said and warned that he will not allow panchayat funds to be utilised for the shifting purpose.
Meanwhile, the makeshift market became operational but the vendors complained of lack of tap water facility and toilet. However, a fish vendor told Herald that the sarpanch had assured to provide one soon.
