PANJIM: Revolutionary Goans, an NGO of youth, have condemned Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant for reportedly making statement against reservation of jobs to locals in private sector in Goa.
The issue pertains to the statement made by Sawant in the Assembly on Friday that Andhra-style 75% reservation for locals in industries will not stand the test of law and courts would strike down such quota.
Speaking to the media, Revolutionary Goans President Manoj Parab said, “Today unemployment in Goa is at the highest level with most companies hiring migrants from labour to officer class. As the chief minister said in the Assembly, the government is not having any data of locals versus migrants ratio for jobs in the private sector in Goa. Even the casinos which are dear to the present government, do not prefer Goans and also there is harassment of locals.”
Accusing the government of failing to plan and implement skill development initiatives needed in Goa, Parab said, “Even the former PWD minister Sudin Dhavalikar is in favour of migrant influx and may have his own long term intention of a vote bank. There is no planning of job requirements for the existing companies and which are coming up in the State of Goa. Even after Digital India campaign by BJP government, there are no efforts by Goa to make all this data available online.”
He also attacked the chief minister for excusing himself from bringing any law in the directions citing Supreme Court. “The same BJP government has gone against the Supreme Court order in illegal mining lease renewal and also against tree felling order in Mopa airport case,” he added.
Stating that the companies use land, water, electricity and all other government facilities, Parab said, “But they hardly employ locals. These companies are going uncontrolled by the local government bodies such as the Labour Department.”
