In fact, there was no staffer to attend to the citizens for a considerable time, forcing many to return home disappointed and dejected.
Citizen Jose Coutinho told the media that there was no one around at counter No 7 to accept the payments, putting the public to inconvenience. “When I came to pay my bills, I was shocked to find no staff members around to accept the cash’, Jose said.
Former MMC Chairperson Savio Coutinho said the civic body should not create a situation wherein citizens coming to clear their taxes are made to return home without making the payments. “It is indeed shocking to note that there was no employee to accept cash till around noon to accept the tax payments. The civic body should realise that it cannot afford to send back citizens who have come to make the payments. They will not return back to the civic body”, he added.
