NEW DELHI: Tehelka editor Tarun Tejpal’s alleged sexual harassment of a woman colleague in Goa during its Think2013 conclave early this month not once but on two consecutive days snowballed into a major controversy on Thursday with the distressed victim expressing strong disappointment over the way the company handled her complaint.
She also completely dismissed the claim of the magazine’s managing editor Shoma Chaudhary that she was satisfied with the internal probe. She said there is no mechanism of the grievance committee in the company to probe such cases under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act assented by the President on April 23 this year. Employers who fail to comply with constitution of such a committee are punishable with a fine of up to Rs 50,000.
The victim girl said she expected justice from the managing editor, who was herself a woman, when
she complained to her that Tejpal had pulled her into a lift in a hotel in Goa about 10 days back on two days to assault her during the event organised by it. She has again written to the managing director to set up the committee to go into her harassment and take action.
