Now, tea bags appear along Utorda-Cansaulim beach belt

Even as the tar ball menace continues to haunt the authorities with the oil substance was found lying unattended to on the Betalbatim coast on Thursday, reports spoke of tea bags being washed ashore on the Utorda-Cansaulim belt.
Locals informed that fresh tar balls have been washed ashore between Gandaulim-Colva to Betalbatim this afternoon. However, there was not much presence of the tar balls on the Colva beach.
Local activist Judith Almeida called up District Collector G P Naik and Deputy Collector Johnson Fernandes demanding immediate action. She also drew attention of the district collector that the authorities are yet to lift away the tar balls collected on the beach belt.
“The tar balls which were found on the Gaundaulim-Betalbatim beach were washed ashore this afternoon. This is evident by the fact that the tar balls were found right upto the high tide line,” she added. Some of the tar balls melted on the beach as evident by the oily substance at many places, she said.
Meanwhile, Almeida has lamented that the authorities are slow in lifting away the tar balls collected on the shore, adding that the agencies concerned should act fast before the commencement of the new tourist season.
Meanwhile, reports said that around 60-70 tea bags were washed ashore the Utorda-Cansaulim beach stretch this evening.
