Shantaram Naik has also accused the Election Commission of illegally deleting the names of seafarers and others from the Gulf countries. Pitching the demand of legalisation of ‘Dhiryo’ The MP has also demanded that the government of Goa must make a proper legal representation showcasing ‘Dhiryo’ as a sport which is not cruelty to animals.
“The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (POCA) and the recent judgement of the Supreme Court is very strict and straightforward. Hence the Goa government has to go with a proper petition in the court and pray that the ‘Dhiryo’ is not cruelty to animals” Shantaram said.
“I suspect the intentions of the BJP government in the Centre and the State. I doubt that by dislodging the seafarers and people in the Gulf from voting the government plans to set aside the minority community and reap the benefits in the forthcoming elections” says Shantaram. He also added that even after clarification from Manohar Parrikar and Central Minister Prakash Javdekar of being in favour of the voting rights no procedure has been done for the completion of the process.
Taking a dig at the comment of Manohar Parrikar’s of “will not talk to media for 6 months” Shantaram said “If defence minister is silent then what’s going to happen to our country?” When cross questioned over the silence of former Congress prime minister Manmohan Singh, Shantaram said, “The Congress PM was advised on various issues by Congress Party President and then to speak, not like BJP who takes advice from RSS while speaking.”
