Sattari’s residents have repeatedly requested a bus stand at Valpoi, which was approved of by local MLA Vishwajeet Rane. Rs 16 crore was sanctioned for the project, while Goan architect Rahul Deshpande designed it.
The bus stand was constructed one year earlier and inaugurated by former chief minister Manohar Parrikar. However, operations didn’t start as certain administrative facilities were lacking. The narrow road connecting the bus stand and Valpoi was also a problem. The government finally addressed all issues after pressure from the locals. KTC will use the fares from private passenger buses to fund the building’s maintenance.
“Valpoi MLA Vishwajeet Rane constructed the bus stand to solve Valpoi’s traffic problems. Hopefully it will be solved henceforth. The Valpoi Municipal Council (VMC) will try to channelize traffic and also parking of all types of vehicles at different places,” said Valpoi Chairperson Sharafat Khan.
According to KTC officials, all passenger buses will directly arrive at the new bus stand. Buses usually cause traffic jams at various places in the city, especially the Valpoi-Thana road. Locals demanded that the VMC and police take action in this regard.
