MARGAO: This accused promised to sell his flat at Rumdamol Housing Board to many and finally ended up cheating around a dozen gullible residents of Rumdamol Housing Board to the tune of Rs 70-80 lakh.
Rumdamol Housing Board witnessed a commotion on Saturday evening as irate residents stopped unloading of household belongings of the accused from the flat, which has already been sold to another person.
The residents demanded that the Maina-Curtorim police bring the accused, Zakhir Pasha, who is holed up in Bangalore. A victim Riyaz Sheikh said the accused cheated him of an amount of Rs nine lakh. “We had lodged a complaint with the police some time back, but the accused is still at large. If the accused is not brought to Goa, we will be forced to go on a hunger strike in front of the District Collectorate,” he warned. Maina-Curtorim PI Gurudas Kadam said the police have already registered an offense of cheating against the accused on a complaint from Yehiya Shabir Khan, who has been cheated of Rs 8 lakh.
A couple of women told Herald at the Housing Board that the accused took money from them ranging from Rs 1.5 lakh to four lakh, but failed to hand over the flat to them.
