PANJIM: The Sports Authority of Goa celebrated the National Sports Day in honour of Major Dhyan Chan the legendary hockey Olympian with a sports quiz, sports photography contest for students and open group and several other tournaments for media, SAG and DSYA staff on Friday.
Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar, Chief Secretary B. Vijayan gave away the prizes to the winners in the presence of SAG’s Executive Director Sandeep Jacques, DSYA director V M Prabhudesai, Bruno Coutinho (jt director coaching SAG), Navin Acharya, Vivek Pawar (asst secretaries SAG), Maria Goretti (joint director accounts SAG), Nilesh Naik (tennis ball cricket coach).
The All-Goa inter school sports quiz with focus on Lusofonia Games was won by Harsh Hegde of Bhatikar Model High School, Margao. He won Rs 10,000. Suraj Parmekar of St Xavier’s HSS bagged the second place and Rs 7,000. The third place was claimed by Carlson Gonsalves of Manovikas High School, Margao who bagged Rs 5,000. Prathamesh Sawant of Dr K.B Hegdewar High School, Panjim finished fourth and Audric Da Costa of Don Bosco High School, Panjim fifth.The programme was coordinated by Steffi Cardozo e Mascarenhas, asst project officer, SAG.
