A thief who looted his colleague of lakhs of rupees in Calangute and fled to Mumbai was arrested by a vigilant traffic constable near Dadar railway station at Mumbai, today morning.
The traffic police Shankar Salunkhe attached to Matunga traffic police station was on duty near Dadar (East) station when he saw a crowd chasing a man.
Realising seriousness of the situation, Salunkhe also ran and caught hold of the person who was identified as Sameerulla Rafique Katachi. He was taken to the respective police station where, according to an officer, Katachi confessed he is involved in a theft case.
He disclosed to the police that he robbed his employer named Satish Beg of Rs 20 lakh at Calangute and escaped.
When contacted Calangute Police Inspector Nolasco Rapose, told Herald, that the accused is also wanted in three properties related offences registered against him at Calangute police station. “There are two to three property cases booked against him …We were working on these cases as well,” he told Herald.
A team of Calangute police was immediately sent to Matunga to bring the accused to Goa on transfer warrant. The team along with the accused has reportedly reached Goa in the wee hours on Thursday-Friday.
The history-sheeter, a resident of Mapusa and native of Karnataka was earlier arrested for a shutter-bending case at Mapusa police station when he was a juvenile. Katachi has been named as accused in certain cases registered against him at different police stations whereas he is suspected in other offences.
