Over 2000 students from 44 schools to attend DefExpo

44 institutions apply for permission to allow their students to watch the expo; students will get to see weapons from various countries

PANJIM: Some 2272 students from across 44 schools and higher secondaries will be able to watch live performances at the Defence Expo India, slated to be held at Naqueri-Quitol from March 28 to 31.
Education department has confirmed receiving applications from 44 institutions in response to its circular issued on March 18. “These applications will be forwarded to the Chief Minister’s Office for final approval. All the schools are most likely to get permission to witness the event,” Education Director G P Bhat told Herald.
The students will be allowed on the last day of the event with the DefExpo authorities earmarking it as public visiting day when people in general would also have the opportunity to be part of the show.
Bhat said that students, who will be accompanied by their respective teachers and heads of institutions, will be transported to and from the highly-guarded site via Bal Rath buses. As mandatory procedure in view of security, schools and higher secondary schools were asked to submit names of participating students to the department by March 23.
Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar had opened avenues for students’ participation stating the expo would not only help scientists in the field but also offer engineering and local students exposure. He had urged that educational institutions interested in being part of the event apply to the Defence Ministry for an approval.
The Education Director stated that such an attempt will motivate students to take defence as their career while they will also gain basic information of defence equipment displayed. A senior official said the students will gain knowledge about life in the army besides coming across live weapons and tankers, exhibited from different countries.
