MARGAO: Summons have been issued for six members of Orixtt Porjecho Awaz, who have been opposing the Defence Expo 2016 at Quitol.
Based on an order of the State government, Cuncolim Police has prepared a report against six persons, who include Barcem ZP member Kushali Velip, Khola ZP member Shanu Velip, OPA activists Percy Pereira, Freddy Fernandes, Charles D’Silva and Delcy Barbosa.
The government had earlier asked the police to file a detailed report on the people who had allegedly been spreading wrong news about the Defence Expo and inciting anger amongst people.
Cuncolim Police had presented its report accordingly, and Kushali and Shanu had already deposed before the Deputy Collector some days back. Now, the OPA activists have been asked to depose before Deputy Collector Shankar Gaonkar according to the order.
It may be recalled that, along with the Cavrem locals, the anti-Defexpo protestors from Naqueri-Betul held a morcha outside the Quepem police station on Wednesday.
The Quepem Police had already invoked Sections 107 and 111 of CRPC against the protestors on March 12, which invited a lot of criticism on the way the issue was being handled.
While this was a precautionary measure, the locals had condemned the move and vowed that they would not let the government crush dissent.
