Overflowing Hospicio septic tank raises stink

MARGAO: Sewage waters from an overflowing septic tank of the Hospicio hospital raised a stink on the main road leading to the city on Tuesday.

The road was lying inundated with the sewage water since the last two days for want of any action by the hospital authorities as well as by the government department looking after the maintenance of the hospital. Surprisingly, the Margao Urban Health centre is located right opposite the overflowing septic tank, but no action was initiated by the agencies to plug the seepage or empty the tank.
In fact, Tuesday morning saw the entire road flooded with the sewage water, leaving the locality enveloped with foul odour. It was only around noon that one found some officials taking stock of the situation and to bring the situation under the control.
This is not the first time that the Hospicio septic tank has overflowed into the main road. Last time round, RDA Minister, Mickky Pacheco had intervened and got the septic tank emptied after the media had drawn his attention to the nuisance, raising questions as to why the agency looking after the hospital maintenance does not empty the tank periodically with the help of night soil tankers.
