Legal Metrology Department Vasco Inspector Pankaj Vasant Narveker along with his team carried out the raid following complaint from the taxi drivers attached to Dabolim airport.
Speaking to media persons, Narvekar said the taxi drivers in their complaint had stated that the shop owner was selling food products and other goods beyond the maximum retail price tag on the product and acting on the complaint, he along with his other team members raided the shop.
Narvekar further said the shop owner objected to the officials from conducting the raid claiming that he comes under the purview of the Airport Authority of India (AAI) and only the AAI officials can stop him from selling goods at higher price.
“As the shop owner tried to restrain us from conducting the raid, I sought the help of the police and AAI officials. The Legal Metrology Department team headed by me recovered a display board with prices much higher than the maximum retail prices and also seized goods worth Rs 25,000,” informed Narvekar.
Narvekar said they also raided a rice godown at Zuarinagar and seized 775 rice bags.
“There was no declaration of the maximum retail price on the rice bags and we have directed both the owners of the shop and the godown to pay fine levied by the department, failing which the matter will be pursued through the court,” said Narvekar.
