The city police arrested a 36-year-old man Wednesday morning on charges of kidnapping and raping a 15-year-old student.
The Panjim police swiftly swung into action following a missing report filed by the minor’s family members on July 14. The accused identified as Puran Singh along with the minor was traced in Bangalore, Police Inspector Sandesh Chodankar told reporters.
Hailing from Nepal, Singh, father of about 18 months old child was the victim’s next door neighbour before he and his family shifted their base to Darjeeling. He worked as a driver for a private bus plying from Panjim to Taleigao and back.
Sources informed, the pair still remained in touch through phone calls and they apparently decided to elude. “The accused was called to the Panjim bus stand from where he picked up the minor to move to Bangalore. They had booked a rented room,” said the source.
Meanwhile, the inspector informed that the duo was brought to Goa today morning after which Singh was arrested under Sections 363 (kidnapping), 376 (rape) of Indian Penal Code and Section 8 of Goa Children’s Act 2003.
Chodankar said, the family members informed the girl was missing since July 7. Failing to trace her, they filed a missing report on July 12 and a team was sent to Bangalore the next day.
The duo was subjected to medical examination in the evening. It was learnt the minor is two-months pregnant, after he indulged in sexual intercourse with her some three month ago.
The mother in her complaint mentioned that the accused always addressed her (mother) as his sister and that she was shocked to know that the same man raped his daughter.
