MARGAO: Over 600 parishioners of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Church, Paroda, on Friday, held a protest march to the Quepem police station over the slow pace of investigation into a case in which two persons allegedly threatened parish youth with dire consequences. They have also demanded the immediate arrest of all the accused.
According to the parishioners, the incident occurred on March 29, after tiatrs had been staged at the church. When the attendees were leaving after 11.30 pm and parish youth were cleaning the area, 2 youth from Paroda, one Wellington and Moracio Dias, rammed their four-wheeler into a two wheeler parked at the church.
When the parish youth questioned the accused, the latter called four other persons and threatened the parish youth with dire consequences.
The youth and locals later filed a complaint with Quepem police. Moracio was arrested on March 30 and released on a personal bond.
Meanwhile, Deputy Superintendent of Police Sammy Tavares, while speaking to the people, stated that the police would not tolerate such crimes and that one of the accused had applied for anticipatory bail.
Paroda Sarpanch Deepak Kharangate, ZP member Clafasio Dias also participated in the march.
