Patrol vessel Avemaria-14 launched

PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar after launching the new 15 mtr patrol vessel ‘AVEMARIA-14’ expressed happiness that the department of Fisheries was committed to provide better infrastructure to the fishing industry in order to improve the socio-economic conditions of the fishermen, increase the fish production in the State on scientific basis and explore different aspects of fisheries.

Parrikar also inaugurated a control room equipped with a wireless communication facility, which would enable the department to broadcast weather conditions and tides at sea and warn fishermen venturing into rough seas. 
The control room which will make broadcasts every hour, will also have a radar and AIS receiver to enable it to recognize friendly fishing vessels within its range.
Also present were Minister for Fisheries Avertano Furtado and MLA Jose Luis Carlos Almeida and Director of Fisheries Dr Shamila Monteiro. 
The new vessel would be able to cover more than 40 nautical miles at a speed of 30 knots.
