Peacock meat seized

In a raid, officials of the Forest department on Monday seized two kilograms of Peacock meat and arrested a resident of Nuvem this evening.
Deputy Conservator of Forests, Shambu told newsmen that the department arrested 68-year-old Rudolf Fernandes, a resident of Murda-Grande, Nuvem based on a complaint for allegedly killing the Peacock, the National Bird of India.
“The forest department has gathered enough evidence and accordingly meat weighing two kilograms was seized. The accused was arrested and brought to the Forest department office, Aquem for further investigations”, he said.
Replying to a question, Shambu said that killing of a Peacock is violation of Schedule One of the Wildlife Protectoni Act, adding that necessary punishment will be imposed on the accused after completing the necessary inquiry.
