CANACONA: Paixao Fernandes, 48, a pedestrian from Kajumol-Saleri was killed after he was knocked by an unidentified vehicle at Chaudi-Canacona on Monday night.
After the accident, the driver fled with the vehicle, which was later found abandoned in the bushes at Khola, Canacona. The police have identified the owner of the vehicle and were yet to arrest him. Meanwhile, the family members refused to take possession of the body demanding the arrest of the accused driver. They alleged that the police were reluctant to arrest the accused despite knowing his identity.

The body has been currently preserved at the Hospicio Hospital, Margao after autopsy. Fernandes is survived by his wife and three minor sons.
