Meanwhile, locals condemned the act of police for arresting the family members and failing to act on the counter complaint filed by the family.

Sources said that when the inauguration function was going on, the alleged accused family came to the spot and questioned panchayat members over trespassing into their private land.

The allegedly accused family had filed a police complaint against Sopte and two panchas of Arambol Panchayat, accusing them of trespassing into their private property.

“When I was alerted by our neighbour that the road was being built through our land, I visited the site along with my sister and brother-in-law. When I told the panchas that they were trespassing on our property, MLA Sopte interfered and started abusing us. After the incident, the police soon came to my residence and arrested us,” said Sanjay.
