PONDA: Claiming that he has received an overwhelming response in Ponda, Congress’s South Goa Lok Sabha candidate Francisco Sardinha along with former CM Ravi Naik and a large number of Congress supporters campaigned door to door in Ponda.
Distributing pamphlets, Sardinha detailed works he would give priority to and emphasised that he would focus on solving issues concerning Goans. Having spent the last few days in Ponda, Sardinha, who was in Curti Ponda on Tuesday, said he hopes to get majority of the votes in Ponda.
“The wind of change is flowing. People want a government that will solve their issues. BJP has failed to solve issues of Goans and on the other hand, it has created more problems,” said Sardinha.
While expressing confidence in Congress forming the next government at the Centre, he said that if he gets elected, his priority would be to immediately restart sustainable mining. He also said that the tourism industry in the State had been compromised by bringing in casinos. He also accused the BJP of attacking the livelihood of the traditional fisher-folk community in Goa. He also criticised the new CRZ act and said the government’s anti-environment Sagarmala will not only destroy Goa’s coastline but the rivers and rivulets too. He also criticised the river nationalisation decision. He called for protecting Goa’s environment and paddy fields which are being destroyed in the name of development. Criticising the BJP government for threatening secularism in the country and destroying peace in the last few years, Sardinha said there is a need to make efforts to defeat this culture of hatred.
Ravi Naik reiterated that Congress will win the LS as well as the by-poll seats.
