PONDA: A woman from Chirputem Bandora who was pillion riding with her daughter-in-law was injured on Tuesday morning after their scooter was hit by an oncoming Mahindra Jeep at Shantinagar Junction, Ponda.
Eyewitnesses said that just before hitting the scooter, the jeep driver suddenly applied brake due to which metal sheets from the vehicle fell on pillion rider Mumtaz Sheikh (55). The eyewitnesses said that the metal sheets were not tied properly to the vehicle.
Bandora Sarpanch Rajesh Naik said that the metal sheets should be transported only through a tempo; instead a Mahindra Jeep was used. The injured Sheikh has been admitted to Ponda Sub-District Hospital. Meanwhile, the locals have appealed to the RTO and Traffic Police control the unauthorised transportation of goods.
